All wrapped up, like a pretty present
Done! Finally. My blog is styled, by website is running (www.stonefest08.host56.com) and I can now do those other things I need to do. Graphic design for a start.
For my blog design, I wanted to do something really simple yet bold. I decided on the final one after a few trial designs. The first one included a banner for each type of post, that wrapped around the content section. I decided against...
So this blog thing...

Tumblr: Yes?
rmcd: Does it have to be so complex?
Tumblr: Of course, what else would you spend vast amounts of time on?
rmcd: Sleeping?
Tumblr: Bah, who needs sleep when you've got CSS!

My website so far →
So this is what my website looks like so far, if you have any suggestions on what could be better or what doesnt work, that would be great. Chances are I’m already working on it, but it doesn’t hurt to get the feedback anyway.

::guimp:: world's smallest website →
I remember finding this a few years ago, I thought I might share it. I thought that it was really well designed, and they have thought about how to fit small, retro games and other media into about one square centimeter of screen space.
It hurts my eyes after a while though…
Z-indexing, positioning and images
I had a bit of trouble last night regarding positioning my logo above the content box. I had used the margin: auto; function to position the content box in the middle of the page, and it would move smootly as I resized the page. This used relative positioning, and everything was fine and dandy.
But then I had to position my logo on top of the content box. Ok, I thought, just use z-indexing. Ths...
Google custom search
I have seen Google custom searches on various sites, and I hadn’t really used one. My experience with them wasn’t good, mostly because it didn’t return results that I wanted, or was just confusing and hard to understand.
Looking at the Google custom search website, it becomes apparent that it is completely customisable. (The only exception is that to use one for free you have to...
HTML finished
I know it has taken far too lang, but I now have my HTML just the way I want it. My CSS is coming along well, the images however are giving me the most strife… but we persevere!
One thing I have learnt from doing my HTML about four times is that you have to keep it consistent. The CSS flows much more freely when everything is kept tidy and constant. This is probably the number one step in...
Aaaaaand... we're back!
So after a long absence, I’m getting back into this blog thing. Im gonna revamp it too… once I figure out how.

Hello fellow bloggers,
So, currently sitting in class learning about really bad websites, and let me say there are some REALLY BAD ones. I’m not sure how anyone could think a bright yellow background is attractive? It is funny how some people think that their websites look really good and promote their business effectively, seriously people don’t be cheap - PAY TO GET A PROFESSIONAL TO...
design reference
For this assignment, I have chosen to redo the Stonefest website.
The current Stonefest website has many good features. It uses a simple layout, has well structured information and simple navigation. The text can mostly be resized and the theme for 2008 was relevant, relating to the grassy ovals, the outdoors, the environment and growth. It also uses simple colours and s not visually cluttered.

UPDATE: The new ipod shuffle is not awesome.
Completely unawesome.
The controls have been moved to the headphones and use a button control system in which you practically need a PhD or equivalent to use. Clicking, double clicking, holding and holding longer all do different functions. I know that Steve Jobs has probably wet his pants over this minamalistic design (and I mean minimalistic, the...

Queensland design emergency!
C’mon, QLD! Surely out of 4,182,100 people there must be one graphic designer who can produce a government logo at least half as ugly as this one:
I mean, really! Is it supposed to be a Q? Or a hamburger and fries? Or an air-con system? It looks like a kiddies craft assignment:
‘Here Jimmy, glue these yellow strips anywhere you like… no not on your face… there! Has...

Boing Boing →
This is my absolute favourite blog currently. It pulls together a fantastic collection of news, current affairs, technology, entertainment, media, design, the arts, culture and anything quirky, unusual, facinationg or just plain fun.
I also love its gadget counterpart, BoingBoing Gadgets, which has the latest in tech, toys and gizmos. Perfect for nerds.

Changing the symbol (aka messing with code)
I’ve managed to change the symbol to the left of the quote (as seen below). In the theme HTML it has several of the following sections:
#content div.post div.inner div.perma-link a{ background: #e8e8e8 url(/themes/8/icons/link.gif) 6px 0px no-repeat; }
Which vary depending on the type of post (text, video etc). I had tried replacing the image for the quote via...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!
Sigh…
Well I think I may have a break from blogging and do some other study. I have been trying to find a suitable comment system to use on Tumblr, and the most talked about and widely used is Disqus. But there is one problem.
It is ugly.
Very ugly.
I may infact switch blog sites because of this. It is bulky, ugly, hard to use and almost impossible to customise. WordPress enables a...

I used this site to see what fonts I could safely use on the web, so that virtually anyone would be able to see a particular font the way I want them to.

My eyes hurt.
Too much time infront of a bloody screen! Well I’m happy with my blog design at the moment, I’m sifting through the html code and seeing what happens if I change this… or this… or this…
So far i’ve managed to change the header bar to a silver line pattern (hosted for free by photobucket) and the title font.
And yes, I do like the title half missing.
I might...

And so it begins...
Hiya folks!
Here goes… I’m going to try to blog every day until the 5th of June.
It could work, it should work… but that probably won’t stop a thousand outside influences stealing away my time.
Still, its worth a try! :)
